The history through the Monuments: 

1. To the Heroes of the Restoration: Main symbol of the city. This monument recalls the events and protagonists of this historical process, recreated in the internal museum. Surrounded by small squares and green areas, there you can contact Santiago’s cars to take a tour of the heart city, Cerro del Castillo, Daniel Espinal street.

Tuesday to Saturday from 9am to 5pm and Sundays from 9am to 4pm. RD $ 70p/p.

2. To the Battle of March 30, 1844 or Battle of Santiago, with which Dominican independence was consolidated. Tribute is paid with 3 spaces:

• ®Imbert Park (intersection of Av. Imbert with Sisters Mirabal)
• ®Constitution Plaza (Av. Antonio Guzmán, corner of Restoration)
• ®Fernando Valerio Park (Escalante street between Independence and Restoration).

3. To the Hero Martyrs of June 14 and 20, 1959: raised in tribute to the Dominican Liberation Movement and its fight against the dictatorship of Leonidas Trujillo. You can admire it on Poncio Pou Saleta Avenue, 15th and 17th streets, Metropolitan Gardens

4. Battle of Matum: A monument, 43 photographs and a model show you the events that took place in the hotel that was the scene of the warlike conflict linked to the 1965 revolution. Exhibition room Juan M. Lora, 1st. Floor. Av. Las Carreras.

Other historical places

5. Duarte Park: Main Square from the colony until the mid-19th century, pays tribute to the founder of the republic, Juan Pablo Duarte. Under its leafy trees you can shelter from the warmth of the sun and get closer to the Santiago society that frequents it. Historic Center of Santiago, calle del Sol.

6. San Luis Fortress: first military compound in the Cibao Valley, from the early 19th century. You can photograph yourself on the pedestrian boulevard with the busts of the heroes; delve into the gloomy world of the public prison between 1905 and 1907, current headquarters of local artists; or admire the objects exhibited in its Cultural Museum. Vicente Estrella Street, near the Yaque del Norte River. Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturdays 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. RD$ 25p/p. Guided tour in Spanish and English.

7. Colon Park: Built in 1897, there you can get very good graphics for your souvenir postcards, by posing in front of the replicas of the La Pinta, La Niña and Santa María boats from the Genoese admiral. Calle Del Sol, between Cuba and Gregorio Luperón.
