Whether for business or vacationing, Santiago is a wonderful and energetic city that will not disappoint you.

If you like urban environments and are looking for a place for a vacation full of adventure, then Santiago de los Caballeros is the ideal place for you. Located in the province of Santiago, this is the second-largest city in the Dominican Republic, making it the main metropolitan center of the northern region.

Its monuments, its history, and its people will captivate you, and its agitated nightlife will keep you entertained, as you can see, it is impossible to get bored in this city. But before going with the reasons we will answer the following question:

What is the most centric place to stay in Santiago?

Now, without further due, the reasons:

1. Aeropuerto Internacional del Cibao (Cibao International Airport), couldn’t be closer. 

The first reason must be, of course, that the Ciabo International Airport is located in this city, in the Victor Manuel Espaillat Avenue to be precise. This is the third busiest airport in the Dominican Republic and the one with the most advanced facilities in the country. So if you come to Santiago, you can forget about making strenuous stops or bus trips, your only concern after landing will be arriving at your hotel.

Cibao International Airport is 15.5km (approximately 21 minutes by car) from Platino Hotel & Casino.

2. Monumento a los Héroes de la Restauración (Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration). 

Santiago not only has modern facilities, but it also has an exciting history, like this monument. The dictator Rafael Leonidas Trujillo started building the monument in 1944 and was inaugurated by Vice President Joaquín Balaguer in 1953, the monument´s first name was ¨Monumento de la Paz Trujillo¨. In 1961, after the death of the tyrant, the name was changed to “Monumento a los Héroes de la Restauración” as a tribute to those who fought for the independence of the Dominican Republic.

This monument, located on Daniel Espinal Street, was designed by the architect Henry Gazón and is a 74-meter-high building, partially covered in marble, surrounded by beautiful gardens; outside it has several statues, and, standing on its top, the statue called ¨El Ángel de la Paz¨ (The Angel of Peace). Its interior consists of a museum about the Heroes of the Restauration, a staircase of 365 steps that leads to the top of the monument, upstairs, it has murals by the Spanish artist Vela Zenetti, a patriotic library and a terrace from where you can see all the city.

This monument is open from Tuesday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. admission prices can vary between $ 1 to $ 2 per visitor, with free admission for students.

The Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration is 1.6 km (approximately a 22-minute walk and a 7-minute drive) from the Platino Hotel & Casino.

3. Parque Duarte (Duarte Park).


Parque Duarte, located in the center of the city and a few steps from the Santiago Apostle Cathedral, exactly on Calle del Sol (Street of The Sun), is the main park in all of Santiago and one of the most colorful in the country. Surrounded by old sturdy trees and comfortable benches. It is a place of interest for tourists and visitors to know the cathedral and the old town hall, and where you will find chariot services to go around the city.

This park is 2.7 km (approximately a 34-minute walk and a 12-minute drive) from the Platino Hotel & Casino.

4. Its excellent tobacco and ¨El Museo de Tabaco Dominicano¨ (The Dominican Tobacco Museum).

The heart of the Dominican Republic is recognized internationally for the quality of its tobacco since it is in the Cibao region, where most of the tobacco plantations in the Dominican Republic are located. That is why we invite you to the Dominican Tobacco Museum, located near the Duarte Park, mentioned above, in the old Victorian tobacco warehouse on 30 de Marzo Street, in this museum you can learn everything about this important commercial activity here in the Dominican Republic.

You will be able to appreciate the process of how they grow the tobacco in their showcases and, in a simulation room, how is the processing and rolling up of such an acclaimed product. On a tour of the museum, they will explain the processes the collected tobacco from the plantations goes through before being turned into cigars.

It is available from Tuesday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 2:00 p.m. (2:00 p.m.) to 5:00 p.m. (5:30 p.m.) and they do not charge admission.

The Dominican Tobacco Museum is approximately 2.7 km (35-minute walk and 12 minutes by car) from the Hotel Platino & Casino.

There is the natural beauty of Santiago, the mountains that surround it, the friendliness of its people,  and also the benefit of several tax-free zones.
